To create better health facilities for persons with disability, SAKSHAM works on several fronts at once. The most visible is the ADIP programme (Assistance to Disabled Persons for Purchase/Fitting of Aids and Appliances), run with support from the central and state social welfare ministries — camps where thousands of persons have received mobility, hearing and vision aids they could not otherwise afford.
SAKSHAM also runs regular camps for the visually challenged in partnership with the Amrita Institute of Medical Sciences and Chaithanya Eye Hospital, Kochi, covering everything from screening to corrective treatment and corneal transplant referrals.
The underlying front is the same across all of these: health access for persons with disability shouldn't depend on how much a family can afford to travel, queue, or pay out of pocket.
